Fishback Unveils Plan to Eliminate Homestead Property Tax

James Fishback unveiled the centerpiece of his affordability agenda: a plan to completely eliminate property taxes on homestead properties in Florida.
"Floridians shouldn't be taxed out of their own homes," Fishback declared at a rally in Jacksonville. "You work your whole life to buy a house, and then you have to keep paying the government just to live in it? That's not ownership. That's renting from the state."
Under Fishback's plan, primary residences would be exempt from property taxes entirely. The proposal would:
• Eliminate all property taxes on homestead properties
• Allow seniors to age in place without tax burden
• Help young families afford homeownership
• Keep longtime residents in their communities
"For generations, Florida families have worked hard to own their piece of the Sunshine State," Fishback said. "Today, rising property taxes are forcing longtime residents out of their homes and their communities. That ends with this administration."
Fishback's campaign estimates the policy would save the average Florida homeowner thousands of dollars annually, providing real relief to working families struggling with the cost of living.
"I'm fighting so every Floridian can earn a great-paying job, buy a home, raise a family, and retire with dignity," Fishback concluded. "And that starts with letting you keep your home."
The proposal is part of Fishback's broader affordability platform, which he describes as inspired by the focus on cost-of-living issues that propelled Zohran Mamdani to victory in the New York City mayoral race.
